PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)
- PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is a technique for amplifying specific segments of DNA in vitro, using primers, DNA polymerase, nucleotides and a DNA template, in a DNA template, in a cyclical process of heating and cooling carried out by a thermal cycler.
- Real-time PCR (or qPCR) is an improved version of this technique, which incorporates a fluorescent probe to monitor DNA amplification in real time. The fluorescence signal generated is proportional to the amount of DNA amplified, allowing both the detection and DNA quantification during the amplification cycles.
This technology offers advantages such as
- Greater specificity and sensitivity - Precise DNA quantification - Faster and more reliable resultsReal-time PCR paved the way for new possibilities in food and feed quality control, offering improvements in terms of scope and speed of reduced analytical costs e greater reliability of results.
