Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)

Commercially available GMOs are organisms, such as plants, animals or micro-organisms, whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques to introduce desired characteristics. Their adoption is growing, as it reflects substantial improvements in productivity. Ensuring that GMOs are safe for human and animal consumption is crucial to protecting public health, and their control helps to monitor their potential effects on the environment.

The need to monitor and verify the presence and quantity of GMOs in agricultural crops (corn, soy, cotton, rice), animals, fish and bacteria and in the products derived from them has generated a search for analytical methods capable of detecting, identifying and quantifying both the introduced DNA and the protein(s) expressed in transgenic organisms.

SelectIngredient offers:

    • detection kits of GMOs by qPCR, ELISA and Lateral Flow Strips
    • Reference materials for the quantification of detected GMOs

These kits enable the detection and quantification of GMOs in a wide range of matrices, such as corn, soy, cotton, rice, potatoes, wheat, fish, plants, seeds and bulk grains.
